Today begins with a 56 mile run north toward some tilefish grounds looking to fill the box. The bite was outstanding and we reach our limit by 9:15 am. Joey sets out a trolling spread and I point the boat west. About forty-five minutes later a white marlin pops up behind out tuna chain. Joey pulls the chain away while he drops back a flat line circle hook rig and the marlin takes the bait. After...

Ran nearly sixty mile this morning trying to find some mahi. Arrived at the lobster gear only to find most blank. We did find one set that was holding a couple. About two mile west we happen to bump into a blue poly barrel that was holding some nice mahi. Some caught on the troll and some on light tackle. Our next encounter is on some kind of floating debris. Most of these gaffers come on the...

Out for a day of tilefish action with Howard and the guys. Morning bite was outstanding with a steady stream of blueline tiles and the surprise of a few small golden too. By 11:00 we reach our limit but before we leave I notice some lobster gear on my radar less than 3 miles away so we paddle over for a look. The first two balls are blank but #3 is hold some fish. We pull out the spinners and...

Heading east for a day of deep drop fishing mixed with some trolling. At the 55 mile mark its clear the wind isn't going to allow for any bottom action so Joey set out the trolling spread. The morning is slow with only two bites, both junk fish. Sometime around 11:00 Joey notices some birds working an area so I swing over and immediately three rods go down. One fish pulls off but two stay tight...

Today found us leaving the dock super early trying to beat the wind forecast to hit around 1:00 pm. At the 45 mile mark, in fairly sporty seas, Joey throws out a catch-all trolling spread. First two hours pass with no action but we see some lobster gear in the distance and hopes improve. First pass and one of our flat lines get jumped. Sure we have a mahi, I'm shocked when Joey pulls a jumbo blue...

With the chunking bite on the way out and most of the crews wanting to fill the freezer we've been putting the baits on the bottom over the last few days and hammering some truely monster blueline tilefish. Almost every fish over the last few days is above average and limits come fairly easy as long as the current doesn't get ripping too fast.

Back to the normal grind after the past week of the WMO finds us chunking for yellowfin tuna 40 miles off the beach. Nothing for the first 90 minutes but then someone flips the switch. During the next two hours we go 3 for 5 and have an additional 4 short bites. Sometime around 9:30 the switch get flipped off and the bites end for the fleet and the day.

A day of tilefish action between our last two days of tournament fishing in 400' of water near the Baltimore Canyon. The action was fantastic and the size was definitely above  average with a couple hammers thrown too. Back in the slip early with a limit of tiles for this local crew.

White Marlin Open Week

Our WMO starts with a big decision for the two guys from NYC. Enter, despite the pending storm, or wait until next year. The guys decide they wanna fish and go for it. Our plan, forget the marlin and go after the tuna money. Monday arrives and the forecast is very dicey so we decide to use our lay-day. This is a decision we will come to regret since a few boats braved the forecast and the bluefin...

Ran east today in some seas that were far from what was forecast was calling for. After 2.5 hours of no action and two of our youngest anglers not doing well we make the decision to make a big run back inside and try for some spanish mackerel in some calmer conditions. The bite was good and the seas were much more tolerable for some in the crew.
