Arrived at the bluefin grounds only to find much stiffer west winds than the forecast was calling for. Our first bite takes about an hour but with a little ways to go the hook pulls. Today’s trip begins with some nasty seas and stiff north winds. Asked the folks if they like to turn around…nope, we’re good, lets go catch a big bluefin, was their response. First hour was without a bite but sometime around 8:00 we have a bluefin trying to eat our bar. Finally he explodes on it and after a great fight we have a 80 lb. “over” in the box. Worked the area for a while...

Out with a father and son duo who wanted to try for a big bite before spending some time just bending a rod later in the day. Looked at a couple nearby bluefin hills but only managed to foul hook a cow nose ray in the wing. Put away the big tackle and set out the smaller spoons. The action on bluefish, atlantic bonito and king mackerel was outstanding.

Spent today with a super fun crew of big time hunters from PA looking for a couple tuna bites. Morning was slow with only a white marlin and a mako encounter. Finally got a double of yellowfin around noon. Worked the area and got jumped by yet another marlin who really wanted our spreader bar. Ended the day with another single yellowfin bite. Another day of deep drop action with the guys from DE. Got a rude slap-in-the-face when we tried sending down 36 oz. only to find it wasn’t enough…not even close. Worked several spots all day with finicky fish while battling some of the craziest current I’ve ever seen to nick out 27 tiles when the bell rang just 3 shy of our limit.

Ran south with a father and son duo looking for some triggerfish. Bite was spotty but the triggers that were biting were jumbos. The guys also had a ball throwing spoons to some 2-3 lb. bluefish for the smoker. Back in the slip with a limit of bluefish and a boat imposed limit (7 per man) of triggerfish.

Today finds us working the same hill as yesterday looking for a couple bluefin bites in some very sporty conditions.  Our first bite comes after about 15 minutes but isn’t pulling quite like a bluefin. Yesterday it seemed we cleared the inlet with every boat in the state of MD. Today I’m fairly certain it was every boat on the east coast. Ran 50 miles and set out our spread.
