Back to back tilefish trips with two crews who did not want the fish for tuna even though the bite was pretty decent less than 20 miles from us. The bite on Wednesday was outstanding. However the crazy fast drift on Thursday combined with way too many cooks in the kitchen required every bit of out time and tricks to hit our limit.

First no show of the season. Well basically a no-show after giving me 5 hours notice that they were not going to be able go. Tuesday's mid-range mahi trip found the mahi totally MIA. Cold green water and not a pretty fish to be found.

After nearly five days of relentless wind we were finally able to slip out for a day of some mid-range Mahi fishing. Things started off a little slow but as soon as the sun got high enough in the sky the action too off. End of the day just three fish shy of the boat limit.

The mid-range mahi bite continues producing better action than the canyon gear. Most of these fish are "bailer" size with a few "gaffers" mixed in, percect for light tackle fun crowd.

Ran offshore with a super fun crew looking to fill the freezer, was like fishing with ZZ Top. The tilefish bite was outstanding with some real nice size fish mixed in with the average one's. On the way back home I hit a couple flags and added a few mahi to the box.

Headed east with a group of guys wanting to try their hand at the tilefish. The bite was outstanding with some real hammers mixed in. Spent a little time looking for a wahoo after the tilefish but all we could manage for a couple Fat Albert's.

Out with two ladies who work together for a day of fun. Started the morning pulling our limit of mahi off some lobster gear in the Baltimore canyon. From there we turned our attention to the tilefish. After putting our limited tilefish in the box and still having a lot of time left in the day we throw out a trolling spread. After 2 hours of trolling without a bite and plenty of fish in the box...

Ran 55 miles with a crew of six to do some ball hopping in the Baltimore Canyon. Competition for the gear amongst the boats was pretty stiff but we managed to find a couple that had not been hit yet and put almost 30 mahi in the box before running out of gear. Made a ten mile run to the tile fish hole and found an outstanding bite with some truly hammer sized blue line tile fish.

Reports
