A last minute fair weather mahi trip with FedEx Tom and his best bud of 50 years Vince. Morning seas were still pretty hateful but we pushed through and arrived at the canyon only to find super thick pea soup fog making it nearly impossible to locate any gear even with our radar since the swells were large enough to mask the high flyer returns. After 45 minutes of searching I finally see three echos on the radar and head that way. The first two pots only yield three fish but that all changes on number three. With 15 in the box and the fog lifting we start going down the string adding a couple here and there. One set is holding three nice gaffers and we’re lucky enough to nail all three of them one of which turns out to be a beautiful 22# which pushes our light tackle to its max. By noon we reach our limit and I point the Fin Chaser back toward OC enjoying the much improved sea conditions.
