Today’s hopes of tilefish were crushed by a forecast that was calling for west winds to 25 knots and seas building to 7 feet in the canyons. The crew decided to stay a little closer, still 22 miles off the beach, and try and put a catch of black sea bass together. Ride out wasn’t too bad but when we tried our first drift, 2.4 knots,…..THAT’S NUTS. Set the anchor knowing it would greatly cut down on the action but no choice, had to do it. By the end of the day we had around 30 in the box, 20-25 knot west winds to push through on our ride home and one of the guys desperately longing for land.
