Made a big run south to some gear in the Washington with Tigger and the guys looking for some mahi on light tackle. The bite was good and by late morning we have a nice jag of fish in the box. Decide to point toward home and stop at a wreck to try and add some sea bass to the box. First several drifts produce a god number of quality fish before they just turn off. Back in the slip with a box full...

Back in the saddle again after six days of constant wind and huge seas. I make a 50 mile run with a couple from southeast PA looking for some tilefish. What I thought would be a easy home run turned out to be anything but. After three hours and nearly a dozen different drops we only have 8 in the box. All quality fish but that number should have only taken 30 minutes at the most. We decide to...

Out with a crew from WV for a day of offshore action. Ran 53 miles toward some lobster gear only to find the lobster boat pulling away from the area after hauling all his gear before the pending big wind. So now its 7:30 am and we're already on "plan B". Worked out to 200 fathoms and nothing. Point the boat toward the 40 fa line and somewhere near 48 fa we get two big bites. One misses the hook...

A week of very unsettled weather found us sitting at dock way too much. Of those crews who did decide to go, many were forced to hang within 25 miles of the beach due to the offshore winds and waves.  These crews were rewarded with outstanding action on small mahi, false albacore and a few spanish mackerel. Our one canyon run on the 14th was a bust. The gear which had been there and holding fish...

Out for a day of offshore action with a crew of friends from my hometown area looking for something big. Spent the day working an area between 100 and 300 fathoms. While we didn't see any tuna we had several marlin encounters and by days end we had gone 2 for 4 on white marlin. Really should have been 4 for 4 but a leader failure and a thrown hook in the middle of a spectacular aerial display cut...

Ran east nearly 60 miles today looking to put these guys on some fish. Spent the first half of the day going ball to ball putting 27 mahi in the box all on light tackle. Joey sets the trolling spread and we almost immediately get a big bite on our shotgun line in the middle of a turn. I push the Cummins up hard but just can't take the slack out of the line and the fish throws the hook, suspect a...

Two days offshore runs mixing both trolling and working the gear for some mahi. The trolling bite was unproductive but the mahi fishing was okay, not red hot though. Wednesday we could only manage a fourteen for the crew of two while Thursday was a bit better with close to twenty by days end.

After sitting at dock due to yesterdays big wind  we're back on the water again with a crew from Annapolis looking to fill the freezer. Ran straight to the gear and proceeded to slam the mahi on light tackle. With a big jag of mahi in the box we turn our attention to tilefish. The drift is just right and the bite is outstanding. We reach the magic number just before noon and head for home with...

A few days of nasty offshore and strong afternoon west winds force the crew to decide to cancel or hang within 20 miles and target smaller fish. All decide to have some fun while giving up the hopes of monster fish. The smallish mahi are thick on the inside gear and while most are released some of the larger ones, still small compared to their offshore brothers, are taken for the table. Days are...
