Spent today with a father and son team from the Harrisburg PA area. After a 90 minute run we start throwing chunks along with about a dozen other boats. First two hours pass without a pull and only seeing one boat doing battle. I decide to send one “feeder” line way out and it immediately get picked up. After a short battle we release our first turkey of the day. Next bait, same result. Third time gets a better bite and after a 10 minute battle we put a 30# yellowfin in the box. During this period the winds which were forecast to be NW at 10-15 have gone to 20. next two bites are the super jumbo YF’s which don’t end well with our 30# leader. Both fish eventually chafe off the last one less than 6 ft. from the gaff. By now the winds are 25 knots and all the boats are forming a conga line for the ride back to OC.
