Made a 55 mile run east this morning to 80 fathoms in search of tuna. After 3 hours of trolling and hearing only of three tuna caught amongst 20+ boat we make the bold move to run 20 mi west to a big shoal that is rumored to have produced some fish earlier in the morning. About 2 miles east of the shoal our short spreader bar gets absolutely crushed and the fish screams off line but after about 2 minutes it is apparent the fish is gone. Turns out the 250 lb main line on the spreader bar gave up. Work the hill for the next couple hours along with several other boats but did not have a bite. With about 30 minutes left in the day our flat line gets smoked and we put a beautiful 73 lb yellow fin in the box.
