First combo trip of the season finds us just inside the Baltimore Canyon looking for bluefin tuna. Dave sets the spread and 15 minutes later we have a blow-up on a spreader bar that doesn’t come tight. Work that area for another 30 minutes with no other bites. Pushed a little bit deeper and found a school of bluefin on the surface. Pulled the baits through them and immediately five rods go down…… but we only have three anglers on board! One fish immediately pulls off and the other three are brought to the boat. Two unlucky Bluefin go in the box and one is released to fight another day. The fourth rod that was hooked up lost its fish since we didn’t have an angler to keep the line tight. Work the area for another hour before heading to the tile fish hole since we already have our limit of bluefin “unders”. The tilefish bite was decent with a mix of small golden and blue lines. With about 45 minutes left in the day we hit the magic number and head for the barn with some very happy anglers.
