First tuna trip of the season found me running 75 miles south with a crew of three from the Philly area. Thirty minutes after lines in four rods go down with blt (barely legal tuna) Yellowfins, one makes the box. An hour later and nothing else I decide to run a couple miles to where Capt. Jeremy has had steady action all morning. About 40 minutes later two rods go down, one fish makes the box and. A couple more passes and nothing so I push a little north and WHAM, six rod go down and theses are better size fish. What follows is twenty minutes of chaos. Lines crossed, everyone fishing a tuna including Dave and I and one fish running free since everyone on board already had a rod. We somehow manage to land four of them and the exhausted crew tell me they’ve had enough so at 11:15 we’re done. One of my long rigger baits didn’t get touched during this melee but as I start to reel it in a big eye explodes on the bait and proceeds to dump half a spool of line. The exhausted anglers only last a few minutes on the rod before its turned over to Dave and I. With less than 100 feet to go the leader gives up. Back in the slip with two blt’s and four 35-40 pounders.
