05/05/07 The season started with a Wreck Trip for three construction workers from south Jersey. Steady Tog action found the group just two fish shy of their limit at the end of the day. Mixed in with the Tog and the couple SeaBass were the largest Spiny Dogfish Sharks I have seen, some well over four feet. 05/11/07 Out for a day of Wreckin with a super bunch of Guys from PA. The wind and current were working against each other which made anchoring on my favorite inshore tog wreck nearly impossible. Headed of to some deeper wrecks and found spotty Tog and Sea Bass action. Even though the bite was off today and the Dogfish messed with our Sea Bass fishing the group managed to have a great time and headed back to PA with five nice Tog to 7 lb. and about two dozen Sea Bass to 4 lb. 05/12/07 Half-Day trip that was requested to be kept with-in sight of land. This father and two sons found out first hand why Tog can frustrate even to most skilled angler. After many "swing and a miss" these guys figured it out and had a ball catching Tog to 6 lb. Since most were females loaded with eggs these anglers, without any urging from me, opted to release all but two fish in order to ensure the future of Tog fishing. THANK YOU, GUYS!! 05/18/07 Cancelled due to weather 05/19/07 Good thing we didn't listen to the marine forcast or this group from MD would have missed out on some of the best Sea Bass action I have seen in quite a while. Steady bite with what must have been a 13" plus average and several fish well over 17" made for one great day. Back at dock with 89 Sea Bass and one Tog. If your thinking of going,,,now is the time. 05/20/07 Sundays Marine Forcast, posted 4:00 PM Saturday afternoon: West winds 15 to 20 knots seas 5 to 6 feet. I told the guys we should be fine, not too sure if they believed me. The actual conditions: west winds 10 to 15 seas 2 to 4 and layed out nice during the day. Decent Sea Bass action but lots 1/4" shy of making the ride home. Red hot Tog bite with fish to 9 lb. The guys released several of the largest females which were loaded with eggs. Back in the slip with 25 Sea Bass to 4.25 lb. and 15 nice Tog. These guys only kept enough for tonights dinner opting to release all the rest. GOOD JOB GUYS! 05/23/07 Took the boys from Pastel Painters out for a day of Sea Bassin. You couldn't ask for a nicer day on the water, plus, the fish were hungry! Not a red hot bite but steady action all day and a real nice average size. The guys took 61 Sea Bass and 5 Tog to the fish cleaners. 05/25/07 Four first-times to deep sea fishing enjoyed a fun day on water catching Sea Bass. The water was a little choppy but this crew did fine, all except for Miss Lisa, who did take time to come out of the cabin and show her man how it's done. Miss Janet also schooled the guys on how it's done by consistantly pulling in several big knotheads ( male Sea Bass) to 18 inches. 05/26/07 Had a family from WV out for a day of wreck fishing. Started on one of my favorite Tog wreck and they were home. After about two hours of feeding these bait stealers we decided to head off for some Sea Bassin. The action was good for about two hours and then the Dogfish decided to make like difficult. Sometime around 1:00 the current slacked off and the bite died. Back in the slip with 4 nice Tog and around 20 quality Sea Bass since this group decided only to keep the bigger fish. 05/27/07 Six friends from MD & NJ out for a half-day of wreckin. Sea Bass action was fair until the Dogfish turned-on, after that, everyone was covered up with Dogfish. Moved to a slightly deeper wreck and found a few Sea Bass but good Tog fishing. Brian Gerrity from Germantown, MD had the other guys green with envy pulling in one Tog after another. Brian also wrestled in a 13 pounder, then was kind enough to release her back to spawn. These guys only kept enough for tonight's dinner opting to release all the rest. GOOD JOB GUYS! 05/28/07 Well, It was bound to happen, and today it did! Took a father and two sons out for a half-day of wreckin. After two plus hours and four normally good wrecks I was ashamed of the total; two Sea Bass and a few Dogfish. Moved to yet a fourth wreck with about 1/2 hour left to fish and finally found some hungry Tog. The last 30 minutes was good with a steady Tog bite, although some were under the 14" minimum. Back in the slip with two Sea Bass and a couple Tog. I post them all, the good the bad and the ugly, like today 05/31/07 Today I took two employees from Kraus Flooring of Clarion, PA and the two owners of Home Works Floor Covering of Ocean City, MD out for a day of Toggin. It was requested that I stay with-in sight of land since one person in the group is very prone to motion sickness. Hit one of my favorite Tog wrecks that lays less than 5 mile from the inlet and the bite was on! This group could have easily limited out but decided to release most of the female Tog that had not spawned out yet. They did put 15 of the 35+ in the box for the ride home. 06/01/07 Took the guys from I.D. Griffith of Wilmington, DE out for a day of wreck fishing. Started on the same wreck that so productive the day before. We must have fed them well the day before because they didn't seem hungry in the least. Jumped to two other wrecks about 10 mile away only to find mediocre Sea Bass action. As a last resort I hit a relatively unknown wreck that I normally stay clear of due to all the snags near this bugger. The wind and current were just right to allow me to set-up on the wreck clear of all the bad stuff, good thing, because the fish were hungry. Back at Fisherman's with a box full of Tog & Sea Bass. Dave Ragolia of Bear, DE won the pool with a nice Tog just shy of 9 pounds. 06/02/07 Love these kind of trips! Took a father and son out for a day of wreck fishing. Dwight told me he's a golfer and his boy is the fisherman. Dwight, was right. Lets hope Grant doesn't take up golf in the near future or dad's in real trouble. Back in early due to Grants headache with six Tog and a dozen Sea Bass in the cooler. 06/08/07 Six guys from my neck-of-the-woods out for a day of wreckin. I can decribe the fishing at the first two wrecks in one word, slowwww. Decided to run five mile south to some deeper structure and bigger fish. What a phenominal waste of time that turned out to be, plenty of fish but all small. Ran back about 1 mile north of where we started and finally found some hungry fish. Back in the slip with 13 Tog to 7 lb. and 19 Sea Bass to 3 lb. Sorry, no pictures out of respect for our Amish friends. 06/10/07 Northeast wind 15 knots seas 4 feet and building, not the best for beginners, but these tough folks from upstate PA gave it a try anyway. Unfortunately the seas were just a little too much and the Dramine didn't do the trick for two of them. Sea Bass were tight lipped but the Tog were OK. Headed in early since three were out of action by 10:00 and one more by 11:00. Back in at 1:30 with six Tog and about a dozen Sea Bass in the cooler. 06/11/07 What a difference a day makes, flat calm and no wind. Had a newbie to deep sea fishing from Morgantown, WV out for the day. I must be spoiled because what I considered a slow day, Donnie of Morgantown, considered it GREAT! He's going back to WV with five Tog and half a dozen Sea Bass all over 13" for the deepfryer. Not bad for a single person charter. Donnie also released several female Tog. 06/12/07 Today was an absolutely beautiful day on the water for a husband and wife from Camp Hill, PA. I was warned before we left dock that they wern't the best of anglers even though they love fishing. Actually, they weren't bad at all. The Sea Bass were steady all day and we had the first run of Spadefish this year. Spades are great fun and fight like the devil, they are also great on the table. Since Brian is the only one in the family that eats fish, they released most of what they caught keeping just enough for a few meals. As a bonus, we caught the first Cobia of the year in OC to my knowledge. FIN CHASER captures the first Spadefish & Cobia of 2007 in OC. 06/13/07 Small craft warning but no wind and little waves, thought we could sneek a few hours in before the blow starts. Action was great for these guys from Pittsburgh, PA. with all the Spadefish we wanted and good Tog action with fish to 25", which was released. Sea Bass were hungry but many shorts. Sometime between 9:00 and 11:00 the seas built from 2 ft. to 4 - 5 ft. and the winds went from 5 knots to 15 - 20 knots. Pulled in lines a little early so we could get while the gettin was good. 06/14/07 Cancelled due to very rough conditions 06/15/07 Today I was scheduled for a fun day of fishing with my son and three other father & sons from our church. The forcast was for rough conditions in the morning subsiding during the day. Since several of the guys were first timers I decided to call it off and try again later. My guys from yesterdays cancelled trip wanted to go and since they have been out with me before I thought they would be OK. Made it to the wreck and things were fine. Around 9:00 the seas started to BUILD!, so much for the forcast. Joe had enough time to catch about a dozen Sea Bass before the dreaded eight hour illeness took over and he was out of action. Cody, age 13, continued to fish and did great on Sea Bass and big Spadefish, one nearly 6 pounds. Came in a little early to allow dad time to recover before his double headed softball game tonight. 06/16/07 Had a crew from Dutchland Waste Management Gap, PA out for some wreck action. The bite was great until we were surrounded by four small boats, some less than 20 ft. away, who apparently don't know how to find wrecks on their own and the bite shut down. Moved to a second wreck and didn't have much action. Ran six mile to some natural bottom and had GREAT action. Back in the slip with a cooler full of Tog & Sea Bass. These guys should be commended, they released countless nice size female Sea Bass which had not spawned-out yet. Thanks much guys!!

06/18/07 Today was the Lancaster Christian School benefit auction trip won by Scott Wigglesworth of Lancaster, PA. This trip was to begin at 9:30, but due to traffic issues for the guys we didn't get underway until 11:15 which made for a relatively short day. When we arrived at the fishing hole the Sea Bass action was great and remained that way for about the next two hours. Made two moves which didn't amout to much before I went in search of Spadefish. With 20 minutes left to fish I finally found the school. Had time to do battle with three, two of which made it in the cooler. Back at dock around 4:30 with about 18 Sea Bass and two nice Spadefish. Man, that's some good eats!! 06/19/07 This last minute trip came together when a father called me and told me he had a group of five kids in their late teens and early twentys that he wanted to take fishing. He wanted to try some bottom fishing as well as some trolling. Started out on a little patch of natural bottom and had good numbers of Sea Bass. Headed for the trolling grounds around noon and went 2 for 4 on Bluefish during the next ninety minutes, one of which was the largest I have ever seen. Finished the day at my little Spadefish hole which was as good as I have seen it. 06/20/07 Took a group of five guys from Lancaster County, PA out for the first inshore trolling trip of the year. I was a little reluctant because the Bluefish bite has been kinda off so far this year. Lines in the water at 8:15, first fish on at 8:22. Sometime around 8:35 something grabbed our flat line bait and screemed off 100 yards of line, this was our Bluefin Tuna I told the guys we might encounter. Twenty minutes later we had a 50 pound Bluefin in the box. The action rermained steady the rest of the day but did slack off for about 45 minutes around 12:30. Thankfully it turn on again shortly after 1:00. Great day despite all the rain. 06/21/07 Had the good folks from Lighthouse Limosine of Edgewater, MD out for a day of bottom fishing. The Sea Bass bite started out great however the fish were small, loads 1/2 inch shy of going in the cooler. The current started to run harder than I have seen it yet this year and eight ounces of lead wasn't enough to get the lines strainght down in 105 feet of water. These conditions made it difficult for the charter to feel the bites and nearly every hook that came up was bare. Moved over to my Spadefish hole and it was better than ever! Spent several hours battling these hard pulling fish. Back in the slip with a few Sea Bass & Tog as well as 14 nice Spadefish. Had several other Spadefish in the 3 to 4 lb. range that we released. 06/23/07 Had the boys from up-state PA out for a day of Inshore Trolling. Got to the trolling grounds a little late but just in time to see a friend of mine, Capt. Jeff, catch his second tuna. Less than an hour later I see Jeff heading in, gave him a call on the radio and he informed me that everyone on his boat was sick and wanted to GO! Still no bites on my raft so I started changing around the spread until I found one that worked. Our first six bites never came tight even though the fish were pulling drag every time. Finally a 25 lb. Bluefin Tuna found the hook and was introduced to my gaff. Proceeded to release four other small Bluefin before calling it a day. 06/24/07 Headed 16 mile off to some deeper wrecks for this Father's Day Gift trip. Had good Sea Bass action all day with some surprisingly nice size fish for this time of the year, though we still had many throw backs. Finished the day off with a few Spadefish. It was only fitting that the Father of the group on board today took home the $$$ from the largest fish pool, a 22 inch monster of a Sea Bass. At the fish cleaners with around 30 nice Sea Bass and a handful of Spadefish. 06/26/06 Kind of a uneventful Sea Bass trip for these two guys from Tamaqua, PA. Action started off good with some nice SB for this time of the year but after the first hour we hand a hard time finding any over 11.5 inches. One of the two on board had some kind of inner-ear problem, combine that and somewhat choppy conditions and it wasn't long till the dreaded eight hour illness kicked in. Back in an hour early with a dozen SB in the cooler. 06/27/07 First offshore tuna trip of the year, but after 30 mile the charter decided to make it a 12 hour trip for Bluefin on the lumps instead of running to the canyon's for Yellowfin, wise decision. Action was GREAT! Caught 9 out of 11 Bluefin all between 42 and 46 inches(45 to 55 pounds). Unfortunately we could not find any fish over 47 inches so we were only permitted to keep 1 of the 9 we landed. Even so, what a way to start the tuna season. 06/28/07 Last minute cancellation. 06/29/07 Headed north to the Flounder grounds thinking it might be a little early but these kids really wanted to try for flounder. Found good Sea Bass action with some nice size SB. Did manage to put 4 Flounder in the box the largest measuring 18 inches. 07/01/07 Left the dock for a day of Bluefin Tuna fishing with the weather forcast telling us that the winds and seas should increase by very late morning. With-in 10 mile of the fishing grounds the winds had already gone to 15-20 knots and the seas were building with lots of white water. Stuck it out for the next five hours in extreamly rough conditions and were rewarded with four nice Bluefin all around 50 lbs and one that never came tight. When asked if anyone is catching fish by a boat 10 mile away from where we were, the captain of one of the boats fishing near me remarked " I know of five fish caught here, but four of them have been by the same boat!" Wonder who he was talking about?? 07/02/07 Cancelled due to rough conditions. 07/03/07 Out for a day of tuna fishing with two guys from Ohio. Ran 40 mile out and found a slick where fish had recently fed. Put out line and trolled around for the next two hours with only two knock downs. Decided to run to a Bluefin hole that has been good in past years,,, and guess what, it still is! Line in, five minutes lated we lost the cooling pump on the port engine. Five minutes after that, fish on! Put that 48 pound Bluefin in the box. Stayed for anouther 15 minutes before pointing the boat toward OC for the 4 hour run on one engine. Since we were only making 7 knots I decided to leave the lines out, 20 minutes later, the long line takes off. Released a 42 inch (45 lb.) Bluefin. 17 mile from OC I see a orange barrel floating, steer over to it and see to small Mahi-Mahi under it. Break out a spinning rod and proceeded to hook one of the two. The guys said they had a fantastic time and can't believe we caught fish while limping home. 07/04/07 Happy 4th of July! Scheduled for a full day of wreck fishing but changed it to a half-day due to increasing wind & seas. Set up on a wreck hoping for some Sea Bass instead found a good Trigger Fish bite, Triggers are my family's favorite table fish, even like them more than Sea Bass. Mom, Dad and the kids had a ball catching Triggers & Sea Bass. Back in the slip by 11:00 with six nice Triggers and one Sea Bass in the box. 07/05/07 Cancelled due to rough conditions 07/06/07 First trip after the big blow. Try as I might I just couldn't find this half-day group any Bluefin. Finished the trip with a few small Blues and a Mackerel. 07/07/07 Out for a day of wreck fishing with a family of four, three of which were suffering the effects of summertime colds. Had great Spadefish action, some of which were over 6 lbs. Back at the dock early due to a serious coughing that just would not go away for the one boy. 07/08/07 Tuna Fishing! Ran 55 mile south to where a few Yellowfin were caught yesterday. Less than 30 minutes after line in we hooked our first fish and had one that didn't come tight. Boated that 25 lb. Yellowfin. Lines back in and bang, two more knockdowns that didn't come tight. Then it happened, five hours and three moves and no bites. Finally after our third move we found some real nice Mahi. Boated one that went 22 lb. and had a second throw the hook right next to the boat. After that it was time to head for the barn. 07/09/07 Last minute cancellation

07/10/07 Kids fishing, I love it! Took grandpa and 9 year old grandson out for a day of inshore trolling for Taylor Blues. While setting the third line it gets yanked out of my hand, while fighting that fish the first two line we put out get jumped on, it was that way the rest of the day. TD, my son, and mate for the day, was running the entire 8 hours. Ended the day with a couple of Spadefish for 9 year old Nick Pelikan. Back in the slip with a cooler full of Taylor Blues and Five Spadefish. Taylor Blues are great fun for children and real tasty on the table. 07/11/07 Exact copy of yesterday's trip except today we had two fathers with their son's ages 11 & 13. Must have caught 50 Taylor Blues before moving to the Spadefish hole for some hard pulling action. 2007 Ocean City Tuna Tournament 7/13 & 7/14. High hopes as we headed south with a great marine forcast, seas 2 ft. and winds less than 10 knots. After 20 mile the seas were a solid 4 ft. and the winds every bit of 20 knots, just plain ROUGH! Pulled up about 20 mile early due to the conditions and immediately got bit by a couple Mahi. Put a 15 pounder in the box and had two that never came tight. Worked that area hard for the next two hours with only two other knockdowns. Moved out deeper and worked a spot from last year real hard but wasn't marking any bait so we ran back inside to where we had started. With-in 30 minues we landed a nice 40 lb. Wahoo. That was pretty much day one. Day two found us north looking for Bluefin. The first three hours of fishing yielded four bluefin, one was just over 47" the rest were right around 44". Then the bite turned off which is what happened the day before according to the guys who had fished that area. They did say that the bite turned back on around 2 pm the prior day and sure enough it did again. Between 2 and 3 pm ( line out at 3 pm for the Tournament) we had two bites that didn't come tight, one real nice King Mackerel and a 43 inch Bluefin that fought harded than any of the larger fish. No prise $$$ for the Fin Chaser crew although we were in third place for the Jr. Angler Division until late in the weigh-in Saturday. 07/16/07 Tuna fishing with a group of four guys from MD, CT & MI in very rough seas. Ran to the same location that was so good on Saturday and wasn't disappointed. Steady action on Bluefin to 46 inches. Tried hard but we couldn't find any over 46 inches. Home with one 45 incher in the box that weighed in at 53 lb. and released four others. Needed to stop fishing early due to the extreamly rough conditions and long ride home. 07/17/07 Carbon copy of yesterday except calm seas and slow fishing until sometime around 10 am. Found a color combo that they loved and had great action for the next two hours and then someone turned off the switch. Back at the dock with a 44 inch Bluefin, two big King Mackerel and a chopper Bluefish in the box. We also released one other Bluefin and pulled the hook on two more during the fight. 07/18/07 Eight hour inshore troll trip for a family of three from York, PA. Unfortunately, as soon as we arrived at the fishing grounds the 8 year old boy felt bad and we returned without a line ever hitting the water. 07/19/07 Well, it's time to get this over with! The day started with our mate arriving late due to severe storms the night before knocking out his power and screwing up his alarm clock, from there it only got worse. Ran the the tuna grounds with a group for five super nice folk from Baltimore. 8 hours of trolling and three moves and NOT a tuna bite, only a couple stinky Bluefish. No excuses, some other boats around me were catching tuna, I guess today just wasn't our day. I am not at all supersticious but one of the oldest charter boat captains in OC once told me don't ever put a Bluefish in the box first if your tuna fishing. As I reflect on this season and last the only two days I got skunked while tuna fishing both of these days we put a Bluefish in the box early in the day, don't know if I'll do that again. 07/20/07 Half-day inshore bottom trip that found good numbers of Porgy, Triggers as well as some small Tog & Sea Bass. 07/21/07 Cancelled due to rough conditions. 07/22/07 Cancelled too early due to the forcast and the charter being concerned about the forcast for rough seas. Turned out to be very nice with nearly calm winds in the morning, increasing slightly around noon, very fishable and the handful of boats that went had a SUPER HOT BITE! 07/24/07 Out for a day of tuna fishing with some fantastic guys from Teleflex Controls in PA. Lines in at 7:00 first Bluefin on at 7:10. Steady bite until around 10:30 when enough boats had moved in and the bite shut down. The afternoon gave us one bite that didn't come tight and one fish that pulled the hook after about a ten minute fight. Back at the dock with two Bluefin in the box 52 & 60 lbs. and released three others. 07/25/07 Dedcided to get away from the crowd and fish a area that was great through this past Sunday, big mistake. Work it hard for several hours and only found one 10 lb. Mahi and two other bites, more than likely King Mackerel. With two hours left I made the move back to the crowded mess around the Bluefin ground. After about an hour the planer rod takes off like I have never seen it before, serious fish! A few seconds later the 125 lb. mono that runs from the planer to the bait breaks. That was our last bite. 07/26/07 & 07/27/07 Capt. Dave D's crew from Jersey. Day one found us trolling for Yellowfin down south. Very slow bite that only yielded two Yellowfin and one of the prettiest Skipjack I have ever seen. Three other boils but they never took the bait. Day two had us primarily looking for Mahi as well as a little Yellowfin trolling. Tried several marker balls with nothing under them but we finally managed to find one that was holding a small school of Mahi. Had a great time catching 3 to 5 pounders. Did have one small Yellowfin that pulled the hook because unfortunately the angler didn't realize the fish was on and didn't crank on the reel. 07/28/07 Ran to the Bluefin grounds for what turned out to be one great day of tuna fishing. After 30 minutes of trolling I told the mate to put out the planer rod, ten minutes later , FISH ON! The next three hours we great three Bluefin in the box (55, 65 and 105 lb.) one released, two that pulled the hook and one that broke a 150 lb. swivel in half. Pulled in lines and headed home around 11:00 with two anglers who didn't have any cranking left in them and two that were not feeling very good. 07/29/07 A day of bottom fishing for a family from mid-state PA. Suprisingly good Sea Bass bite with some very nice Sea Bass, many over 16", put a few Flounder in the box as well. Back at the dock with 25 Sea Bass and three Flatties. 07/30/07 Arrived at the tuna grounds with four guys from MD. As we were setting out the spread the mate asked "where's the planers"? Turns out they were tossed overboard in a bucket of soapy water that I let the charter wash their hands in the day before. After a few hours of trolling without any bites I started asking all my fellow charter capt's if anyone had a large planer I could use, finally JW of the Banshee loaned me one and guess what, you know it, fish on! Released two, broke one off right at the boat, darn trim tabs, and put two in the box a 50 & 58 pounder 07/31/07 Inshore bottom trip for a group from Cambridge, MD. Good bite all day long with some very nice Sea bass, especially for this time of the year. At the fish cleaners with 29 Sea Bass and 9 Flounder, one over 23". 08/02/07 Arrived at the tuna grounds about an hour late due to some issues the charter had in the early AM. Fish the area had all day with only one bite that never came tight. A few fish were but not many, mostly in the early morning. Back in the slip with me looking hard to find that banana someone must have hidden somewhere on the"Fin Chaser". 08/04/07 Tuna Again!! Worked the same area that has been so good to us this year and put three nice tuna in the box, 45 lb. Yellowfin and two Bluefin 55 & 100 lb. Three tuna is far from a "hot bite" but the tuna fishing has been very slow for the OC fleet the last few days and our crew was thrilled with the catch because I warned them prior to the trip about just how slow the tuna bite has been. We also had a few bites that never came tight. 08/05/07 Took two guys from PA out looking for BIG Bluefin, something over 130 lb., didn't find it. Did find a crate with some Mahi under it. These must have been Asian Mahi because the lettering on the crate said "manufactured in Malaysia" I'm so funny. 08/06/07 to 08/09/07 White Marlin Open Week. Fished the WMO with Randy & Scott Franckowiak, Pop & Brian Wolfenberger and Rick Wawrzonek otherwise all known as Randy, Randy, Randy, Randy and Randy. Headed out Monday but decided to use one of our two lay-days and turned around. Tuesday found us on the Tuna grounds looking for that "BIG" Bluefin bite. We entered all the tuna calcutta's and are not marlin fishing during this tournament. Started out good with a Yellowfin hooked-up early in the day. Unfortunately, the hooke pulled close to the boat. Ended the day with only a few small Mahi in the box. Wednesday found us at the same location still looking. Sometime around 9:30 both wwwb's (way, way, way back's) take off at the same time, two big bluefin. Somehow, despite 5 to 7 foot sea's and these fish constantly crossing each other we managed to get both in the box, 113 & 116 lb. Day three, same place. After 30 minutes of trolling and marking fish about 70' down I told Ryan to get out the planer rod, 15 minutes later, "fish on"! 121 lb. Bluefin in the box. The next fish, a 45 lb. Wahoo eats one of our wwwb's, now he's in the box as well. Third fish, a 20 lb. Yellowfin comes to the boat tail-wrapped. Yep, now he's in the box too. Final fish hits out short rigger and is really pulling drag. I see the fish coming to the boat but soemthing looks strange, he's being pulled sideway's through the water, foul hooked in the belly. Don't care how we hook em just as long as they see the inside of our cooler and he did. As of Thursday at 5:00 PM we ended the WMO just 11 lb's shy of third place calcutta money, over $34,000.00. That would have been nice! 08/10/07 Tuna fishing with a group of four from Maryland. Our first encounter was with Mr.Wahoo who cut us off after eating out Ilander fishing lure. Our secound encounter, the Wahoo ate our planer and we lost everything from there back! Now we still have nothing in the box and I am out 80 bucks in tackle. Finally a 58 lb. Bluefin hits the wwwb (way, way, way back) and he makes it into the box. Headed in shortly after that due to increasing winds and building seas. 08/13/07 One of the slowest days of tuna fishing the OC Fleet has seen in quite a while, many boats had no pulls all day. Arguably one of the top tuna boats in OC, the Marli, was back in their slip with only one tuna in the box. This seen was all too common today. We worked hard only to put one 53 lb. Bluefin in the box. We also lost a fish that looked to be around 65 to 70 lbs. about two feet from the gaff, the hook just pulled. Hooks pull, lines break, it happens! I feel bad charging anyone 925 bucks to put only one fish in the box. Not quite sure how I would handle it if the charge was 2000+. The only consolation I have is the guys assured me they had a great time despite the slow fishing and would be back. 08/16/07 Tuna fishing with a family of four from Ohio in what is to be building conditions. About one hour after lines in we put a 30 lb. Yellowfin in the box. The next two hours only one bite that doesn't come tight. Conditions are now fairly rough and we decide to head in and try for some Flounder. During the ride in one of the boys experiences the dreaded "reverse digestion" for the second time today, it's time to get this boy back to solid land.

08/19/07 The planer rod blues. Seven lines in at 7:15 just one more to set out, the planer rod. As the mate is setting the planer to the correct depth the line jerks and "fish on" 32 lb. Wahoo in the box. Worked the area for two hours and no marks or bait. Moved off about six mile to where the "hogs" live and still no marks or bait. One boat there informed me that of all the boats there, over 20, he only knows of two fish. Stayed there for two hours with nothing before moving back inside. No longer set out the spread and the short rigger snaps, 8 lb. Mahi in the box. The next fish hits the planer rod and we can't slow it down, finally the 150 lb. spectra line breaks, serious Bluefin. The next encounter was a Wahoo that must have thought our planer looked tasty and ate it. Back at the marina with a Wahoo & Mahi, but without two complete planer outfits, fourty bucks each, ouch! 08/20/07 & 08/21/07 Three half-day trips. Good numbers of small Sea Bass with only a few Flounder. Extreamly fast drift and very dirty water, bad combo for Flounder fishing. 08/24/07 One strange day! Started off normal enough catching a few turkeys (False Albacore) then things went weird. While cranking in one of the bridge rods a Wahoo grabs the back of the bait and skies out of the water ten feet, then drops the bait. Ten seconds later he grabs one of the long riggers skies out again and drops that bait as well. Our next bite grabs the wwwb (way way way back) and splashes around like crazy, not sure what it is. Turns out to be a 20 lb. Baracuda. A few hours and a couple of turkey bites later we put the days first Wahoo, 40 lb. in the box. We are not more than 300 yards from the first Wahoo encounter although this was a larger fish than the jump happy one. Twenty minutes later we are surrounded by a huge pod of Porpoise and suddenly our planer rad take off. This no longer happens and a Porpoise comes skying out of the water right behind the boat with our planer and bait hanging off of it. Fortunately the line broke and he was on his merry way. Our last bite was with five minutes left to fish. One of our wwwb's get hit, 15 minutes later a 55 lb. Wahoo goes in the box. 08/25/07 Out with two couples from NJ for a day of tuna fishing. As soon as the lines were set out we were cut off by a Wahoo. About one hour later we put a Yellowfin in the box. The next several hours gave us only a few Turkeys ( False Albacore). Moved back toward where we had our Yellowfin and one of the flat lines takes off but doesn't come tight. Five seconds later the other flat line gets hit and our second Yellowfin comes in the boat. Back in the slip at 3:00 since this was only a ten hour trip. 08/27/07 Fishing with five guys (three adults and two younger) from NJ who drove down overnight. Our first fish in the box is a Mahi (around six lb.). The next three bites are turkeys. Unfortunately that was our final bite. Due to the long night, long drive ahead of them and slow bite we decided to wrap-up fishing early and are back in the slip at 3:00 pm. 08/29/07 Out for a day of Wahoo, Mahi and I guess Tuna fishing, even though the tuna have been as rare as snow in August this week. I think the full moon, lunar eclipse and what ever is going on with Mars has these fish real messed-up. Our first encounter with Mr. Teeth has two short bites followed immediately by a fish hanging himself on our long rigger, one 35 lb. Wahoo in the box. This may have been the same fish going bait-to-bait or more than one fish. Our second bite takes the short rigger but doesn't come tight. Worked hard for the next few hours but no other encounters. Back in at 3:00 since this too was a 10 hour trip. 08/30/07 This trip started the evening before with a phone call to the charter telling them Tuna fishing is terrible and offered them the opportunity to re-book to a later date when fishing improves. They appreciated the call but chose to keep the trip as planned. We put out our Tuna, Wahoo & Mahi spread and found a hungry Mahi sometime around 9:00. Worked that area hard with no other bites and decided to troll south. Just shy of the area I was heading for I spotted a pallet floating and pointed the boat at it for a past. Snap! fish on, second Mahi in the box. Pulled in the lines and broke out the spinners. We spent the next two hours casting to Mahi & Trigger fish. With the outrigger baits hanging in the rigger clips I happened to look to the side and there is a small (20 lb.) Wahoo staring at the one hanging bait. I twitched the bridge rod line and he started to come at it, then he stops turns and swims away never to be seen again. Back in West OC with seven Mahi and four Triggers in the box. 08/31/07 This trip started the same as the one before with a phone call to the charter explaining the tuna fishing, or should I say lack of. Just like the previous day this father and daughter charter decided to give it a go for a ten hour trip. Worked one of my favorite Wahoo, Mahi and Tuna locations hard but couldn't get a solid bite, only a few knockdowns by what I saw were Mahi, only slightly larger than our baits. I would have loved to found a tuna for this young lady, she was an absolute delight to have on board. 09/06/07 Ran 60 mile south to the Washington Canyon where a pair of Yellowfin's had been caught the day before. That's right, a hot bite these days are two fish, better than none! Upon arriving we found countless Pilot Wales acting stranger than I have ever seen. I also found more long-line floats that I have ever seen in one area, not good news. About two hours into the day we spotted a small school of Bottlenose Dolphin pulled through them and snap, the spreaded bar gets bit. Twenty minutes later a 78 lb. Yellowfin goes in the box, super nice fish. We had another boil on the other bar at that same time but the fish didn't eat it. That was our day, no other bites. 09/08/07 Decided to run up north to midway between the Baltimore & Wilmington Canyon's since there have been a small handful of tuna's caught over the last couple days. Found water that looked fantastic, rips, weedlines, temp break and a debris line. Worked that area for two hours when one of our spreaded bars gets crashed, ten minutes later a 40 lb. yellowfin goes in the box. About two hours later while clearing lines a White Marlin comes right up to the back of the boat and eats our one flat line that one of the charter is reeling in, we got the release. With thirty minutes left to fish a small Blue Marlin comes flying out of the water and crashes down on our short rigger but gets the bait behind the hook and we never see him again. Of the five boats that fished out of our marina two never had any pulls, one went bottom fishing and caught a mixed bag about a dozen fish, one boat caught four very small Mahi (two to three lb.), and then there was our catch, a 40 lb. Yellowfin, released a White and missed a Blue. 09/12/07 Took three guys out in what was to be OK conditions only to find out that the weatherman lied again, it was rough! Was very suprised to have the kind of Flounder action we did. The guys limited out in less than perfect conditions. Average size, around 17.5" with three over 20" one of which was over 23". The guys were very happy since they had spent the previous two days Flounder fishing in their own boat without ever hooking a keeper size flattie. 09/13/07 Today was to be a offshore Tuna trip for Jay Reed of J&J Offshore Tackle and his bunch but due to the horrible Tuna fishing they decided to go bottom fishing instead, smart move! Found nice calm seas and a steady Flounder bite with a few Sea Bass mixed in just to add some color to the cooler. Pulled in lines with 13 Flatties and five SB's in the box. I believe we must have released another 6 or 8 undersize Flatties and lots of small SB. After running toward home for a few minutes I spotted something large floating on the surface with a couple of Seagulls standing on it. Headed that way to check it out and found it was a HUGE, dead , Leatherback Turtle with a small Cobia hanging directly under it. As I was pointing out the Cobia to the group something caught my eye off to the side, two Mahi. I grabbed a spinner from the cabin threw on some bait and gave it a toss. The fish immediately ate it, ten minutes later we had a 8 lb. Mahi in the box. Pulled back to the Turtle and threw out another hooked bait to try for the second Mahi. Suddenly the Cobia streaks out grabs the bait and Fish On! Two minutes later we released the Cobia. Great day considering that of all the boats fishing offshore I did not hear of any Tuna fish caught, only a few Wahoo and Mahi. 09/14/07 Left the dock with all intentions of going back to the same area that was so productive the last two days. However, the wind & waves forced a different plan. I headed north to some open bottom that is usually very productive. Found great numbers of Sea Bass but most were just under the twelve inch minimum. Good Flounder action but unlike the previous two days many were throwbacks. Back in the slip with 9 Flounder and a handful of SB in the box. 09/21/07 Ran to the deep with a ton of live bait looking for some Mahi action for this group of guys. Worked lobster balls in the Baltimore Canyon with great success. Went from ball to ball landing some dandy Mahi to 12 lb. on light spinning gear, can you say FUN!! Back in OC with 27 Mahi, the average weight being somewhere around 8 lb. 09/22/07 Same group as yesterday but today we were looking for some Flounder. Ran to the secret spot but the drift was WAY too slow, less than .25 knot. Ideal drift is anywhere from .6 to 1.0 knots. The drift did pick-up late in the day and we managed a nice mixed catch even with the less than perfect drift. Many undersized Flounder & Sea Bass, lots of Skates too. Back in the slip with 10 Flatties, 3 small Bluefish and six or eight Sea Bass. 09/24/07 Ran 58 mile for a day of Mahi & Marlin trolling. About one hour into the day the long rigger takes off with one serious fish. After dumping 3/4 of a spool of line the fish finally slowed down. Ninety minutes later Ryan grabbed the leader on our 350 to 400 lb. Blue Marlin. A few pictures later the fish was revived & released to fight again. A little later in the day a White Marlin takes our long rigger but throws the hook after about a minute. Missed another White shortly after our first encounter. Ended the day with Five Mahi all around 6 lb. 09/25/07 Out for some Mahi fishing with the guys from Pastel Painters. Found some huge grass mats on our way to the deep and they were loaded with Mahi. Spent the entire day on these grass mats having a ball catching Mahi of all sized. Back in the slip with 68 Mahi in the box, one tipped the scale at 19 lb. I am sure these guys must have released another 75 undersize Mahi. 10/01/07 Headed out for some Mahi to where a big boat, sixty footer, found them under big grass mats on Sunday. Extreamly rough heading out but the forcast was for it to lay-down during the day. Arrived only to find the huge grass mats had blown apart and the small mats that were left only held extreamly small Mahi's and Bar Jacks. Tried trolling for Wahoo with no success in building winds & seas. 10/02/07 Warned this group of three that the conditions were going to be brutal and I would gladly refund their deposit but they wanted to give it a go despite the sea's. Anchored over a wreck in 5 to 7 ft. seas and found great Sea Bass action. Most were 1/2 inch under the minimum but seemed to very hard fighting today for their size. Did have two very large Triggerfish take our bait as well. Pulled anchor after three hours and decided to drift the inlet for last two hours to try for some Flounder. Back in the slip with around a dozen Sea Bass to 14" and two very large Triggers. 10/05/07 Ran to a location where the previous day found huge weed mats and a few Mahi's only to find the mats had blown apart and scattered the weed throughout a 8 mile area so thick you couldn't troll without having them hanging off every line with-in a minute. Did find one small mat that managed to hang together, trolled by it and bang! three nice Mahi on. Don't know if I have ever had this happen before but somehow all three fish managed to throw the hook only a few feet from the gaff. Spent the remainder of the day catching Turkey's (False Albacore). 10/06/27 Took a group out for a bachelor party fishing trip. These guys wanted to catch a lot of fish and didn't care that they wouldn't be fifty pounders just as long as they had steady action and we didn't need to leave dock real early since one in the group drove down from Connecticut the night before. The guys had a great time catching what they estimated to be well over 100 Sea Bass in four hours. They kept about a dozen and a half for dinner that night. 10/07/07 Out for a day of Flounder/ Sea Bass fishing. Arrived to find a drift of over 1.6 knots, way too fast to hold bottom even with twelve ounces of lead so we decided to anchor and try for some Sea Bass. Had steady action for several hours catching SB's. Finally the wind slacked off enough to allow us to drift for some Flounder. The Bite was fair and we managed to put five flatties in the box during the last hour or so of fishing. Back in the slip with five Flounder, one huge Triggerfish and about a dozen Sea Bass. This will be the end of the daily reports until the 2008 wreck fishing starts in late April, remember book early for the best dates!
